Carto.org - History...

The group carto.org participated in the creation of the international groups EPSG (1985 - European Petroleum Survey Group) and APSG (1992 - Americas Petroleum Survey Group). These groups have (among other things) developed an international coding system for coordinate reference systems and coordinate transformations, which is now being built into an ever increasing number of software products, particularily open source tools as MapServer, Grass and GVSIG. These actions underline the founders role as an international coordinator.
